SPRINGFIELD MUNICIPAL BAND

Auditions

Municipal Band at Union Square Park The Springfield Municipal Band was founded by referendum in 1936. The Band performs a number of free park concerts at Douglas Park each summer and also performs at many military and civic events during the year.

Of the fifty or more members, most are professional musicians, music teachers or college students majoring in music. Membership is by audition.

The Municipal Band's normal summer schedule includes weekly concerts on Tuesday evenings in the Douglas Park band shell. Other appearances are scheduled as requested, primarily around holidays such as the Fourth of July, Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

Tom Philbrick will begin the 2012 season as the Springfield Municipal Band's new director. He replaces Gene Haas who retired after serving in the director's position for many years.
