The
Springfield Municipal Band was founded by referendum in
1936, and has recently completed its 68th season.
The Band performs approximately 20 free park concerts
each summer and also performs at many military and civic
events during the year.
Of the
fifty members, most are professional musicians, music
teachers or college students majoring in music.
Membership is by audition.

Gene
Haas has been conductor of the Municipal Band since
1978 and has done numerous musical arrangements for the
band. Gene has a BS in Music Education from the
University of Wisconsin, Master of Music in Theory and
Composition from Southern Illinois University, and
additional graduate credits from the University of
Illinois at Urbana and at Springfield, and Illinois
State University.
Gene is
retired from Lincoln Land Community College where he was
professor of Music Theory and Jazz Band, and holds the
title of Professor Emeritus. He led the band on a
concert tour of Austria in 1990, performing concerts in
Vienna, Salzburg, and the American Music Festival in
Graz. |
