Miss Bell Miller, born in 1870, was one of Springfield’s
first professional businesswoman. At a young age, she
started her own floral business eventually building
greenhouses that nearly covered a city block. In 1909
she completed the construction of Springfield’s first
modern apartment building. This building, currently on
the corner of Second and Canedy Streets, was designed by
the prominent architectural firm of Helmle and Helmle.
Court Conn, a Springfield caterer, last purchased the
building and the building was restored and converted to
a bed and breakfast.
