Fire Safe Families

Children
playing with fire has become the
fourth largest cause of fire deaths
in the nation. In 1997, 370
deaths and millions of dollars in
property damage were caused by
children playing with fire.
In
an effort to save lives and prevent
fires, the Springfield Fire
Department has developed a special
intervention program to assist
parents in confronting problem
behavior in their children. In
this way they will be able to
identifying certain behavior so that
the children can be properly helped
and tragedy prevented.
The
program is supervised and conducted
by personnel of th e Springfield Fire Department who have completed
specialized training in fire
prevention, investigations and
education.
The
Objective of the program is to
reduce fires which are set by
children. Education and
counseling are the methods by which
we strive to achieve this objective.
The
program is designed for youngsters
between 4 and 15 years of age.
However, children of any age will be
considered for participation based
upon individual review.
