On August 28, 2009, the Illinois Premise Alert Program (PAP) Act became effective in Illinois.  The PAP is a safety program that supports individuals living with disabilities as well as Police Officers or other public safety units responding to calls at a specific address.  To learn more about PAP and sign up for the program, please go to the SCCDS homepage and click on the Premise Alert button in the lower left hand corner of the page.

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children from 6-14 years old.

In 1995 there were 1,586 motor vehicle crashes in Illinois killing 681 people   42.9% of the 1995 crashes were alcohol related.

Drunk driving is the leading cause of death amount Americans 5 to 28 years old.

Pedestrians should walk on the sidewalk whenever possible.  If pedestrians must use the street, they should WALK FACING TRAFFIC.

Air bags inflate at a speed of up to 200 miles an hour.

When you ride a bicycle, ride with the traffic and obey all traffic signs.

No more than 2 cyclists may ride side by side according to Illinois law.

A 25 pound baby weighs an equivalent 500 pounds in a 20 mile an hour crash.

There were 23 people killed in Illinois during the 1997 Thanksgiving weekend.   None of those killed were wearing seat belts.

64% of Illinois citizens wear seat belts.  An additional 2,484,300 Illinois citizens must start wearing seat belts to reach the usage goal of 85%.

There were 1,296 tickets issued in Springfield in 1997 for restraint violations (no safety belt and/or safety seat).
