Mayor Timothy J. Davlin has signed an executive order temporarily suspending some aspects of the permit process to allow for the expedient repair or demolition of structures. Some required fee and permit requirements will be suspended in this procedure thus speeding up the process for homeowners to rebuild following Sunday's tornadoes. The executive order stands for 60 days.

"We want to make it as simple as possible for people to rebuild their lives by reducing paperwork and financial requirements for reconstructing their homes," Davlin said. "Building permits will not be required and the related fee will be waived so that tornado ravaged homes can be quickly demolished and rebuilt."

In addition, the City will not placard any owner occupied single-family and two-family structures located in the Storm Area. Permit fees required for demolition permits are also being waived for single and two-family structures in the Storm Area.

The City's Building and Zoning Department will perform inspections upon the request of the owner occupied single and two-family structures in the Storm Area. Demolition permits shall be applied for by the second business day after demolition.

The order applies to anyone whose property that was damaged by the tornadoes and is within a Storm Area as defined by the City.

"We want our residents lives to return to normal as quickly as possible and want to do everything we can to make that easier. The best way is to cut the red tape and accelerate the process," Davlin added.

The City wants to remind everyone of the potential dangers of occupying structures that have been damaged by the storms. As work progresses on them, walls and roofs can shift creating hazardous situations.
