Mayor Tim Davlin today named nine individuals to serve on the Springfield Bicycle
Advisory Council. The council will act as an advisory body on bicyclist issues; analyze routing,
operation and the safety of bicycles and their riders. Members will also evaluate and make
recommendations for signed shared roadways, the use of and installation of bicycle racks and
signalization.
“These individuals will provide valuable input as the city moves forward to make
Springfield more bicycle friendly,” Davlin said. “The benefits of riding bicycles have been well
documented. They can be expressed in terms of the health of the environment, as well as the
health of individuals who are more physically active. Bikeable communities create a more
equitable society that provides transportation choice for all citizens.”
Named to the Council are David A. Sykuta,
chairman, Dr. Daniel Adair, John Allen,
Janet L. Cooper, Michael Cummins, Kevin Greene, Michael F. Higgins, John Pohlman,
and Terry Farmer.
The Springfield Bicycle Advisory Council will also develop education and public
outreach programs on bicycle issues. It will work with the City to develop strategies that help
make routes safer for children to bicycle to school and increase the number of children who
choose to bicycle. Springfield Bicycle Advisory Council will serve as unpaid members.
The City is also seeking applicants who are interested in serving on the Police
Community Review Commission (PCRC). Individuals interested in serving on the commission
should make application by accessing the city’s website at
http://www.springfield.il.us and going
to the section for application for employment and city boards and commissions.
