Springfield Police made quick work this morning of solving two residential burglaries by
capturing suspects running from the scenes. One incident occurred in the 1500 block of North
Third Street and the other was in the 2400 block of South Grand East.
On North Third Street, a nearby resident alerted police to suspicious activity at a private
home. They described a person who had entered the building. When officers arrived, an
individual matching the description of the suspect, was spotted running from the scene. A foot
chase occurred that took the suspect and officers several blocks before the suspect was
apprehended.
A short time later, a resident called to report a burglary in progress on South Grand East.
Two individuals were spotted, and one had apparently kicked in a door. Officers quickly found
the pair and arrested them. It is not fully known what, if anything, was taken in either burglary.
Quick work by the officers coupled with alert nearby residents who, without hesitation,
called police, resulted in the apprehension of three individuals. They all face possible charges of
residential burglary, criminal damage to property and theft.
“Even though these are only two of many burglaries that occur this time of year, it
demonstrates the vigilance that all of us need to maintain,” said Robert Williams, Springfield
Police Chief. “Our officers are out in the neighborhoods watching for just this kind of activity.
Calls from residents who spot suspicious activity help us tremendously in solving crimes and
stopping unlawful activity before it starts. We are indebted to them for helping us get these
criminals off the street.”
