General
Requirements
1. Applicant
must be at least 16 years of age. High school students
may audition only if performance skills listed below are
met or exceeded.
2. Applicant
must be available for scheduled rehearsals and
performances throughout the summer.
3. There must
be an anticipated vacancy in that section.
4. Applicant
should have extensive experience performing in a band or
orchestra, at least at the college level or beyond.
5. A prepared
piece, while possibly helpful, is not required.
Expected Performance Skills –
Applicant must demonstrate:
1. Ability
to perform chromatic scale and major scales at a
reasonable tempo throughout expected playing range of
the instrument.
2. Ability
to sight-read unrehearsed music on a level with
literature normally performed by the band.
3. Tone
quality and intonation expected for performance in a
professional organization.
4. Knowledge
and application of alternate and trill fingerings
(woodwinds).
5. A
playing range that is sufficient for any passage that
may be encountered in the band literature.
6. Percussion
applicants should be able to perform on all instruments
normally found in the section including but not limited
to; snare and bass drum, utility percussion, mallet
instruments, drum set and timpani.
Auditions
will be held following the Monday night rehearsals in
May. An instrumentalist who in the opinion of the
conductor possesses the skills to be a member of the
band, but for which no vacancy has occurred will be
placed on call to substitute in that section.
