Robert Bullard House
1313 Leland Ave.
This house was designed and owned
by Robert A. Bullard, a noted Springfield architect who
also designed the Springfield’s City Hall, the Unity
Building and the Paris Cleaning Plant.
The house is a significant example
of “prairie” style architecture, known for open floor
plans, low-pitch roofline, natural materials,
overhanging eaves and horizontal lines. This style was
a direct departure from the Victorian style of boxed,
confined spaces. The Bullard House was completed in
1906, just two years after Frank Lloyd Wright finished
construction on the Dana-Thomas House.
