Environmental Policy Statement
As a city government, and in line with the principles set out in Springfield Green, the the City of Springfield is committed to the ideals and practices of environmental responsibility through measures designed to:
- promote energy efficiency and conservation to residents, businesses and City Departments;
- encourage tree planting, landscaping and addition of green space and parks
- reduce and deter litter and fly-dumping
- promote good environmental practice and awareness of its environmental policies and issues amongst City personnel;
- promote practices consistent with environmental protection, both within and outside the city government;
- minimize the negative impact of the city government on the environment;
- participate in local initiatives to improve the quality of the environment;
The City of Springfield has adopted a program to support the planning and implementation of environmentally sustainable development strategies throughout the city. Through its Springfield Green program, the city is matching funding and resources to accomplish environmentally friendly projects that improve the quality of life. Additionally, the City will ensure that its personnel contribute to environmental responsibility in all of its practices and procedures.
