Mayor Timothy J. Davlin
today announced that all neighborhood and homeowners
groups that applied for Springfield Green’s 2007
Tree Grant program will be awarded funding. This
grant program will pay for new trees for parkways,
common areas and public ground for seven different
neighborhoods within the city limits of Springfield.
Springfield Green will provide up to $300 per group
for the purchase of new trees for these areas.
"We’re happy
to be able to lend support to neighborhood groups
for tree recovery efforts in light of last year’s
extensive storm damage,” said Davlin. “Providing
Springfield Green funding to help these groups both
beautify their streets and benefit the environment
is a win-win situation for the City of Springfield.”
Groups deemed eligible
include: Collingwood Estates Homeowners Association;
Country Place Condominium Association; Enos Park
Neighborhood Association; Historic Westside
Neighborhood Association; Lincoln Park Neighborhood
Association; Palisades Homeowners Association; and
Val-E-Vue Neighborhood Association;
Other tree efforts
Springfield Green has underway include 50 new trees
at the South Grand Avenue and Dirksen Parkway
gateway and 30 new trees in the 1100 to 1800 block
of South Grand Avenue as part of an inner-city
beautification grant. Sponsors for these programs
and similar projects are needed for other areas of
the city.
Springfield Green is a
City- and community-driven program to beautify
Springfield with plants and flowers through
neighborhood projects supported by individual and
corporate donations.
