The Springfield Police Department is alerting residents to the fact that at an individual is
representing himself as a city employee offering to paint house numbers on the curb for a fee. The
fee is $50 to $70.
The City of Springfield does not paint numbers on the curb. This individual is
misrepresenting himself if he is saying he is a city employee or has been hired by the city to do this
job.
Periodically, vendors obtain a peddlers permit allowing them to go door-to-door selling
products or services. In this case a vendor obtained a permit to paint addresses on curbs. He is not
an employee of the city, nor has he been hired by the city, but he can do it under his peddlers permit.
However, in this case, this person’s permit expired at the end of last year. Consequently, he
does not presently hold a peddler’s permit to conduct his business in the City, and must renew his
application before he does so.
Again, the City of Springfield does not paint house numbers on the curb. Any representation
that someone is officially working for the city painting curb numbers is untrue and misleading.
