In an effort to make it more convenient for residents of the City of Springfield to utilize the City’s branch pick up program, the Public Works Department has begun providing a list of locations identifying where branch crews will be working. Municipal cable channel 18, the city’s website (http://www.springfield.il.us) and the State Journal-Register’s Sunday edition will identify the locations where crews will be picking up branches in the coming week. The city Streets Department at 789-2246 can also be called to inquire as to where crews are picking up branches.

“In order to make the process more user friendly and reduce the number of unsightly piles of branches, we are publicizing our branch operation so that residents will no longer have to guess when crews will come down their street,” Mayor J. Michael Houston said. “Once everyone becomes more accustomed to the notification system, it should become much easier to plan trimming chores so that they coincide with the pickup schedule.”

The residential branch pick up will be on a 4 to 6 week rotation, with crews getting to each neighborhood every 4 to 6 weeks. A map indicating where branch pick up will occur in your area will be posted on the city website.

Also, the city of Springfield will pick up ONLY branch piles from residents no larger than 3 feet in height, 4 feet in depth, and 10 feet in length.Photo of branch pile that does not qualify to be picked up by Public Works crews.

Piles too large to fit into a small pickup truck will not be picked up by the city. Residents are encouraged to contact a private tree trimming service for removal of larger piles or trees.

Branches must be placed on the curb not obstructing the street or sidewalk. Those who do not comply with these guidelines could be cited and possibly fined if branches are not removed.

Should residents want to dispose of their own branches they may haul them to the city street department facility at 301 N. 17th Street (off of Clear Lake by the Salt Dome). They may be dropped off Monday-Saturday 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.. Drop off is only for city residents not tree trimming businesses.
