The City of Springfield has expanded the amount of data and information available to the
public on the Internet by adding a section to the City’s website providing bidding information
including complete bid books. This demonstrates the City’s continuing effort to provide better
service and contain costs.
"Up to this point we have included only bid announcements, but interested individuals still
had to go to the Municipal Complex and obtain the bid books if they wanted to submit bids or
proposals,” Mayor J. Michael Houston said. “Now, those individuals and companies that truly want
to sell products or services to us can just download the booklets and begin the process in a much
more convenient manner.”
“They will still need to return the books to the City’s Purchasing Department, located on the
second floor of Municipal Center West. But, this will allow more companies and individuals to
have better access to detailed bid requests. Hopefully it will lead to more competitive bidding and
potential savings for the City.”
The bid books and request for proposals are now available on a new “Purchasing” page
which can be found at
http://www.springfield.il.us/purchasing.
Potential bidders would need to print out the documents and fill them out just as they would
if they obtained the booklets in person. The bid books would need to be returned with the
appropriate supporting documentation either in person or by registered mail or courier. Bid books
will still be available at the City’s Purchasing Department for those who would like to obtain them
in person. They have also been mailed to registered bidders.
