The City of Springfield will again conduct a yard waste pickup program this Spring to allow
residents to put out leaves and yard waste that have accumulated over the Winter months. The
program will run for two weeks starting on Monday, April 4, 2011 and Monday, April 11, 2010.
Leaves should be placed in paper yard waste bags or cans and placed at the curb. The last
day to set out yard waste for the special collection is Sunday evening, April 10, 2010. Do not
remove the bagged leaves or cans from your curb once you place them there. No plastic bags will be
accepted. Leaves left on boulevards will NOT be picked up.
Leaves should be placed in paper yard waste bags--not grocery sacks or boxes. Cans of yard
waste rather than paper bags are acceptable, but they cannot weigh more than 60 pounds and must
be marked “yard waste” in letters large enough to be seen from the street by the drivers.
This Spring city yard waste pickup runs for two weeks only and begins each week on
Monday, April 4 and Monday, April 11. Bags placed after those dates might not get picked up as
waste haulers will make one pass through each neighborhood each week. If you place yard waste
bags at the curbs after those weeks, you will need to affix a sticker so that your waste hauler can
pick them up.
The Department of Public Works is also resuming the annual branch pickup program for
2011. Residents should place their limbs and branches in front of the house on the parkway,
between the curb and sidewalk, so that Public Works crews can easily pick them up. The branch
pickup program is ongoing in all parts of the city simultaneously and traditionally runs from April
through November.
