The Communication Department at a City Municipality or Mayor's Office is responsible for managing all aspects of the city's public messaging and outreach. This includes overseeing the city's public access channels, ensuring that residents have access to vital information and updates through video broadcasts. The department handles city photography and videography, capturing key events, initiatives, and official communications.

Road Construction Updates

NINTH STREET LANES TO REDUCE FOR ELECTRIC WORK - 05/13/2025
On Wednesday, May 14th, beginning at 7 a.m., both southbound lanes of Ninth Street will be closed near Capitol Avenue to accommodate emergency repair work to a manhole by City Water, Light and Power electric crews. This closure may last through Thursday, May 15th depending on the status of repairs.

WATER MAIN BREAK TO INTERRUPT SERVICE TO BROWNING ROAD AREA - 05/08/2025
Due to a 10-inch water main break in the 2300 block of J. David Jones Parkway, water service to approximately 80 customers will be temporarily interrupted this evening. Customers impacted include the 300 to 500 blocks of Browning Road and along Mars, Star and Neptune Avenues. Water service is expected to be restored later this evening after an initial phase of repairs by City Water, Light and Power crews can be completed.
Lane closures on Browning Road and J. David Jones Parkway are planned to accommodate the work. Lanes will remain closed after repairs until road surface work is completed. Motorists should plan for alternative routes and slow down and be aware of the construction and repair crews and equipment in and near roadways.

FIFTH STREET TO DETOUR FOR WATER WORK - 05/12/2025
Beginning Monday, May 12th, N. Fifth Street will be closed between Eastman and North Grand Avenues for City Water, Light and Power’s repairs to a damaged water service line in the 1200 block. A detour route will be posted at Eastman Avenue for area motorists. Impacted lanes will remain closed until road surface repairs are complete.

Guidelines to Posting on Community Events Calendar

The City of Springfield is proud to provide a community event calendar as a resource for the public. This calendar allows individuals and organizations to promote their community events and activities. To add an event to the calendar, please submit a request for approval by completing the "Request an Event to add to the Community Calendar". All required fields marked with an asterisk (*) must be completed and "submit" button clicked for form completion.

Approval is based on the following criteria:

  • All entries should be submitted no less than 10 business days prior to the date of the event/activity to ensure posting to the Community Calendar. If approved, the City of Springfield will do its best to post submitted items within 2-3 business days.
  • All events/activities must be open to the general public, not just to organization members, and must not discriminate on any legally impermissible basis.
  • Sporting events, religious services, political fundraisers and camps are not eligible for posting to the Community Calendar. Religious organizations hosting seasonal events such as fall festivals, job fairs, community events etc. may be considered.
  • Regularly occurring or ongoing events will not be included on the Community Events Calendar.
  • A community event calendar forms will need to be completed with all required information included.

Examples of events submitted to the City of Springfield community events calendar include:

  • Events open to the public, including community celebrations, farmers’ markets, school events, educational opportunities, local sporting events and other community activities.
  • Fundraiser events for non-profit agencies, schools, social services or other organizations.
  • Informational seminars, clinics or public meetings

Events submitted for posting containing any of the following shall not be approved for posting:

  • Profane language or content.
  • Event that promotes a specific religious or political activity or belief.
  • Sexual content or links to sexual content.
  • Content that promotes, fosters or perpetuates discrimination on a basis of race, creed color, age, religion, gender, marital status, status with regard to public assistance national origin, physical or mental disability or sexual orientation.
  • Direct solicitation of commerce (i.e. yard sales, special discount sales, etc.)
  • Conduct or encouragement of illegal activity.
  • Information that may tend to compromise the safety or security of the public or public systems.
  • Content that violates a legal ownership interest of any other party.
