Congressman James M.Graham House

413 South 7th Street, Springfield, IL

The Italianate home at 413 South Seventh Street is named for United States Congressman James Graham who resided there from 1897 until 1945. He served three terms in Congress from 1908 to 1914 during the birth of the Progressive movement, and played a key role in congressional investigations of the Taft administration. It is believed the home was built by local brick mason Richard Young in 1862. Both the interior and exterior of this two story red brick home have been preserved in near original condition.
